Landscaping at rear of Manly, NSW
Project Overview
The client’s brief was to accommodate two large vehicles and to utilise the off-road car space, when not in use, for a play area and a storeroom. This was achieved by a building large double garage with a storeroom attached. The eastern wall of the garage was made up of a steel/timber sliding wall. This was to soften the exterior look of the garage, keep an eye on the children when they were playing in the garage area and to have the garage area blend into the yard.
Manly Council requested water storage/detention tanks to be installed as part of the Development Approval. The clients did not like the idea of having above-ground water storage tanks so we designed under part of concrete slab of the garage a 15,000-litre water storage and a 3,000-litre detention tank.
The rear part of the property was not in keeping with the rest of the home or its surroundings. To make better use of the area for their expanding family and to make area dog-friendly. To make the pool area blend into the surroundings. Careful designing by Landscape Architects incorporated:
- better use of the available space
- careful selection of soft planting
- use of frameless glass handrail around the pool, opening up and visually cohering the area while retaining safety
expanding the hardwood decking.
All the requirements of the clients were not only met but surpassed. They, their children and their pets are very happy in their new back garden.
